Karla Robbins

Extension Agent, SNAP-Ed, Family and Consumer Sciences

Karla is an FCS SNAP-Ed Extension Agent for the Family Nutrition Program. Karla has her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Averett University and her Master’s degree in Education from Regent University. Before coming to Extension, she worked as a public high school FCS teacher, focusing on nutrition and wellness, introduction to culinary arts, economics and personal finance, and child development and parenting.

Karla serves the cities of Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, and Suffolk, along with Isle of Wight, Southampton, Surry, Sussex, and York counties, but her work is restricted to people who have incomes low enough to qualify them for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps. Karla works with both youth and adults, but in an indirect manner through the use of volunteers. For example, she trains teachers on how to include nutrition education in their classrooms. She is also responsible for working to change policies, systems, and environments by building community partnerships and sitting on a variety of boards and coalitions.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the Family Nutrition Program, you may contact Karla for more information.
